Jonathan Fineberg

I began as an art critic writing for my college newspaper. My October 1966 review for The Harvard Crimson of the fall 1966 performance in Boston of the Velvet Underground and Nico, The Exploding Plastic Inevitable where I met Andy Warhol and then tried to figure him out was influenced by the classes I was then taking with Erik Erikson (who was writing his psychobiography of Gandhi at the time) and Rudolf Arnheim whose books (and patient mentoring) on the relationship between art and the psychology of perception gave me the tools to create a theoretical structure for the relationship of form and expression in art, that has in turn informed all my work.
